Designed in One Single Overnight Sprint
During a fast-paced hackathon event in 2024, our team tackled the challenge of empowering local Indian artisans who struggle to reach digital buyers due to generic e-commerce platforms that dilute their artistic identity.
Working through the night, I spearheaded the UI/UX design & brand identity from scratch, establishing user flows, custom vector artwork, warm terracotta visual themes, product detail specification cards, and checkout workflows.
๐ Outcome: Our design solution won 2nd Prize at the hackathon competition, praised by judges for its cultural authenticity, intuitive user navigation, and high visual polish.
Generic Marketplaces Ignore Craft Identity
Traditional artisans and independent craft creators face three key hurdles when selling online:
Lack of Art Context
Generic shopping apps treat hand-painted art like mass-produced plastic items, hiding the artisan story.
No Material Specifications
Craft buyers need specific care instructions (hand wash, glass material, embroidery details) which standard apps omit.
Difficult Category Search
Traditional crafts (mandela bottles, ceramic cutlery, earthen pots) get lost under generic product tags.
Cold Visual Aesthetics
Cold corporate interfaces fail to evoke the warmth, culture, and craftsmanship of handmade art.
Cultural Warmth Meets Modern E-Commerce
KalaKriti balances cultural authenticity with frictionless modern mobile e-commerce UX principles:
